This is a online game I played recently. It shows what can happen if black tries to block the queenside and the opportunities white has with a bishop sac on h7.

There are 24 games from a few thematic tournaments played in the last couple years on Chessworld using this line. I have found it to be a good alternative to e4 and it does give some new life to the mainline Colle. Ill try to post a couple of the better game found there and if interested Ill be glad to post a pgn file of all the completed games.

Oh? Wow. I'm sure we would be happy to see all the games.

Is there any chance you could let people know on chessworld that this line is now being examined/analyzed in earnest, and people can check out some initial analysis at the Phoenix Attack QuickStart Guide page?

RE: Phoenix Attack games
Here is a game played on Chessworld in an recent Thematic tournament.

Firebradx - girke

1. d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3. e3 e6 4. Bd3 c5 5. c3 Nc6 6.Nbd2 Bd6 7.O-O O-O 8.dxc5 Bxc5 9.b4 Bd6 10. Bb2 Qc7?!
As Rudel says not the best move.

(10... Bd7!? 11.b5 Ne5 12.Nxe5 Bxe5 13.Nf3 Bd6 14.c4 Rybka)

11.b5 Ne5 12.Nxe5 Bxe5 13.f4 Bd6 14.c4 Qe7 15.Rc1 Rd8 16.Qc2 b6 17.Bxf6 Qxf6 18.Bxh7+ Kf8 19.Bd3 Bb7 20.cxd5 Rac8 21.Qd1 Rxc1 22.Qxc1 Rc8 23.Qd1 1/2-1/2

RE: Phoenix Attack games
General Analysis: These are my opinion based on the thematic games I've looked over and played so far. Please fill free to make any comments.

1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.e3 e6 4.Bd3 c5 5.c3 Nc6 6.Nbd2 Bd6 7.O-O O-O 8.dxc5 Bxc5 9.b4 Bd6 (9... Be7 may deserve some attention, with the idea of supporting the Kingside.)

10.Bb2 Best move in my opionion (10.b5 Maybe a bit premature. ?!) (10.a3 played by Colle; solid)

10... b6 (I think this could prove to be the most solid approach.)
(10... e5 11.e4 Bg4 12.h3 Bxf3 [12... Bh5?!] 13.Qxf3 d4 14.a3 Rc8 15.Rac1 Qe7 16.Nc4)
** I think play on the c file is critical. White has to be careful not to let his c-pawn and c-file become weak. And if black plays b6 and Bb7, whites b4 and b5 can prove to be a problem.

11.Rc1
(11.b5 Ne5 12.Nxe5 Bxe5 13.Nf3 (13.f4 Bd6 14.c4 Bb7 15.cxd5 Bxd5=)13... Bc7 14.c4 Bb7 15.Rc1 Rc8 16. Qe2 Bb8 17. Rfd1 Qe7 18.cxd5 Nxd5 19.Nd4 Qd6 20.Qh5 Nf6 21.Bxh7+ Kh8 +-)

11... Bb7 12.b5 Ne5 13.Nxe5 Bxe5 14.Nf3 Bd6 "c6 and the c-file may be a little vulnerable as the game goes on."
(14... Bc7 15. c4 Rc8 16. Qe2 Ne4)

15.c4 Rc8

(15... a6 16. bxa6 Bxa6 17. Bxf6 Qxf6 18. cxd5 Bxd3 19. Qxd3 Rfd8)

16. cxd5 Rxc1 17. Qxc1 Nxd5 * I'd say its roughly equal here but I think white has better chances to mix it up.

Best Regards, Tim

p.s. Rudel's analysis is a great start! Don't forget to take a look at it.
