Chess Position Trainer & Rybka
I have CPT (chesspositiontrainer.com) which is freeware that allows me to practice my openings using the "flash card" method. My goal is to take all the colle books, find the best lines and enter them into the database.
I'm wondering if anyone has already begun this project and if so, perhaps we can work together exchanging repertoires as we progress. I also recently purchased Rybka and am looking for other Colle players that use it. I'd like to apply IDeA analysis to the lines to look at various continuations. Thanks for any help you can offer. |

RE: Chess Position Trainer & Rybka
I've tryed CPT on my computer but its to buggy. It doesnt like Vista at all so I'm using Chess Opening Wizard (COW), formerly Bookup, for most of my opening training and studies. It is a pay program but I think there is a free demo version somewhere. I'd like to see CPT upgraded for compatibility.

I started the same process some time ago. It seems to have stalled of late owing to other commitments. Maybe I have some files you will find useful?

RE: Chess Position Trainer & Rybka
CPT does work with Vista but it needs coaxing with Vista's compatibility function. Go to the CPT website, click on Support, then click on Forum. One of the two entries deals with this problem.

RE: Chess Position Trainer & Rybka
There are rumors of a new version of CPT (CPT4?)coming out without the compatibility issues.

The flashcard system is a fantastic idea and the sytem works! Whats really neat is that this is FREE. For the past couple months I've been working on transferring most of my analysis over to CPT, from Chess Opening Wizard (previously Bookup) and using the Flash card system to learn the lines. While still in progress, this immediately showed me where my strengths and weaknesses where in my opening rep. Thats nice! As this feature is automatically adjustable and will challenge you as you gain in knowledge. My method has been to add lines and comments from all my sources (Referencing where I found the line or comments of course.) Whats neat here is that you can see and read the comments and recommendations from different sources on the the same line/position without having to thumb through a multitude of various books, etc. This is a great learning process. And once you have it in the training features make everything very nice to learn with and keep up to date. There is the capability to zip and ship lines and share analysis. But I recommend this in its most basic form without or limiting comments from other sources other than you own. I'm not a copyright expert but this can be abused. So lets make sure the Authors get credit where credit is due and support them by buying there books. |
