Dutch from odd move order
Oddest Stonewall I've ever seen - 1. d4 d5 2. Nf3 f5

I think this pretty much works to avoid all the anti-Dutch lines. And it eliminates the move orders where white plays Nh3-f4 against the Stonewall, which is one of white's best tries against that opening.

Any suggestions other than studying the Stonewall?

If you play the Dutch, or against it, some knowledge of the Stonewall is essential. As to the above line, 2... f5 is much to committal. An immediate 3.c4 seems very comfortable for white. Example: 3.c4 e6 4.g3 Nf6 5.Bg2 and we're in standard stonewall territory.

RE: Dutch from odd move order
Yeah, I actually play the Dutch as black, but usually the Classical variation, with the d pawn on d6 to support an eventual e5 push, instead of playing d5. I do need to learn more about the Stonewall in general - I suspect there are times in my own games as black where I'd have been better off with it than the Classical variation.

Fromper, you might consider getting Sverre's book on the the Stonewall dutch.

Another very good book to get is Starting out: The Dutch Defence by Niel McDonald (Everyman Chess)

RE: Dutch from odd move order
An even more sophisticated move order for Black stonewall players, that I sometimes encountered in internet blitz games, is
1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 e6 3.e3 f5
Now, there is no Bf4 and no Nh3 any more. White's options of fighting against the stonewall have been considerably restricted.

RE: Dutch from odd move order
This is one reason we've bandied about the possibility of suggesting something a bit different after 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 e6
I'm not sure if we decided anything concrete, but I do know this has come up for the reason you give. I cannot seem to find the thread now...hmmm...

Try the Sneaky Dutch thread. Anything new here? This could also be called the 'e3-Dutch'.
