c4 against my plan

Hello Everybody.

First of all I thanks David for suggesting me to register to this forum and for all the information about the Colle-System.

As I told him, most of the time my plans of playing Colle-Zuckentort (Phoenix variation) is denied with the push of black pawn.

This is a recently game I played (today). I ask you some suggestions about. Is my "b3" plan right? Are there other plans? Was I too fast with "b3"?

With 5.c3 this now the Cole Koltanowski (CK), 5.b3 would be the Colle-Zukertort.

5...c4 premature. White has a couple different ways to exploit this.

First, lets take a look at why 5... c4 is premature.

1. It releases the pressure on the white center for no particular reason.
2. White has played c3 and the Bishop is very happy on c2.
3. Blacks Q-side pawns can become easy targets.
4. White has an easy plan in the center.
5. Blacks plans are to slow.

White plays for an e4 pawn break threatening e5 or an exchange on d5. The resulting positions give white a very comfortable game.


ex: 6.Bc2 b5 7.Nbd2 Be7 8.e4 O-O 9.O-O Nc6 10.exd5 exd5 11.Ne5

the suggested plan seems to me very compfortable. I'm learning to play chess so these suggestions are very appreciated.
